Pedestrians to left? If I was tired, I'd sit on that bench and watch the work in progress! Certainly a lot of life going on there! Motorcycles, a street and the workers, a lot to see. Like this photo!
Nothing sinister in this zone: via Veneto is just around the corner and the elegant Palazzo Margherita, which houses the US Embassy, is across the street.

Funny how "left" in Italian is sinister in French.
Very interesting, it gave me that feeling...I need to visit Rome again! :)
