This is unusual. There certainly are some unusual new benches along the wharf at Pyrmont, in my post today. Your blog has inspired me and I'm taking more notice of those around Sydney. I will photograph some of the more interesting ones.

Very interesting. Doesn't look very comfortable...and must be coming apart if it has to be tied up...unless that's tied to some kind of new weird religion? ;-)

The mystery! What are the ropes tied to, or what is tied to them??
Funny how it looks like a fence with a bench added as an afterthought.

Pisans do strange things...

LOL! You seem skeptical about Pisans. At least they had the sense to cast a rhinoceros (apparently the same as drawn by Durer, although how that happened, I don't know) on the doors of their famous baptistry. By the way, if you go back sometime, would you take a photo of the rhino for me? I'm only remembering it from the 1970s, when I had very little money for film and I visited late in the day with not much light. But maybe I can find a photo somewhere. This appears to be a digression. Interesting bench and nice photo of it.

OK, it seems that images of this rhino were common throughout Europe in the 1500s, and Alessandro de Medici of Florence chose a similar image as his insignia (which does not quite explain Pisa), and it was on the west doors of the cathedral, not the baptistry, that the image appears. It's wonderful what you can learn online.

If someone is interested, this is the Pisan idea of a Rhino.
