This would be a good rest stop for someone running a race or just needing to sit for a moment. The back rest doesn't appear to be too good for long, extending visits!
I love the fence behind the bench, but it looks more California than Italy - but then, I have heard that Pisans do strange things. It looks like a pleasant setting, if a little neglected. Looks like snow, too.
